Corkscrew Road to Broadway Avenue East
In January 2024, the Village Council approved $490,560.65 for High Spans Engineering, Inc. to provide construction engineering and inspection services for the Sandy Lake Bike/Ped Improvements. In February, the Village Council approved $47,200 for easement acquisition. The Village of Estero moved the project through its initial planning, engineering design (with consultant Atkins) and right-of-way easement acquisitions through 2022 and 2024.
The construction manager's approval for the project was obtained in May. However, the project has not begun because several required easements along the route have been difficult to secure.
The Plan: The project spans from Corkscrew Road to Broadway Avenue East. It proposes an 8- to 12-foot off-road concrete multi-use path, a pedestrian bridge crossing the Estero River, street lighting and native landscaping.
Current Status:
Funding Scaled Back: In recent updates to the Village of Estero Capital Improvement Program (CIP), budget allocations for the Sandy Lane bike-ped path were significantly reduced (such as scaling down to $300,000 in General Fund support), while other regional paths like the Estero Parkway South SUN Trail received higher fiscal priority.
Timeline: Because of these budgetary shifts, active construction on the full multi-use path and river bridge remains deferred without a confirmed start date
