FGCU Engineering Students Bring Estero’s Future to Life

On April 17, 2026 at the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagle X Poster Exhibition, innovation and community collaboration were on full display. The annual event featured dozens of student-led research and design projects—this year showcasing over 100 posters spanning disciplines from engineering to environmental science. Faculty, students, local leaders, and community partners filled the exhibition space, engaging directly with the next generation of problem-solvers.

Among the standout projects was a collaboration between FGCU engineering students and Engage Estero. Over the course of the semester, students developed a digital tool designed to help residents better understand the growth and development happening in and around Estero.

The app brings clarity to complex topics. It allows users to visualize development projects on a map, track timelines, and understand costs over time—offering a transparent view into how tax dollars are being allocated. In a region where development, traffic, and infrastructure are top concerns, this kind of accessible, visual information is especially valuable.

What makes this project particularly meaningful is the partnership itself. By connecting university talent with real community needs, the initiative demonstrates how academic institutions can directly contribute to local quality of life. These students aren’t just learning—they’re creating practical tools that help residents stay informed and engaged.

For Engage Estero, this is another step forward in its mission to make information more accessible and actionable. For residents, it’s a powerful reminder that understanding your community doesn’t have to be complicated—it can be interactive, visual, and even intuitive.

And for the students? It’s a glimpse into the real-world impact their work can have—right here in Estero.
