We all have questions about whom to contact to resolve a transportation issue. It’s essential to understand which government entity is responsible for the specific area related to the issue you want to address. The information below indicates whom you should contact based on the location and the issue.

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)

FDOT  maintains an Enterprise Correspondence Tracking System   https://fdot.justfoia.com/Forms/Launch/02e367f7-96f8-4985-bef5-664a71f9b2ab where information can be requested or an issue reported.

FDOT owns and maintains US41 and I-75.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)

To report a dead animal in Florida, contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) or your local government.

  • Call the Wildlife Alert Hotline at (888) 404-FWCC (888-404-3922), 866-392-4286 for Alligators.
  • Text 847411 (Tip411) with the keyword “FWC” and information about the situation
  • Submit a tip at https://MyFWC.com/WildlifeAlert

FDOT roads in the greater Estero area include Interstate 75 and US 41.

Lee County Department of Transportation (LC DOT) welcomes concern on LC DOT roadways:

  • Traffic signal timing, and operation
  • Signs
  • Streetlights
  • Maintenance of Lee County roadways and right-of-way: Landscape maintenance, trash, construction materials, dump truck spillage, cement truck discharge, pothole repairs, and minor roadway repairs.

You can report on their website. https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/7d51036dfd3e4d7aa45e1ab21f915771?hide=field:problem_status,field:notes,navbar  or call 239 533-9400.

The website is very effective in identifying the exact location of the issue. This is important because it helps LC DOT identify the appropriate crew to dispatch to address the problem. You can also attach photos.

Lee County roads in the greater Estero Area include:

  • Alico Road
  • Corkscrew Road
  • Three Oaks Parkway
  • Ben Hill Griffin Parkway
  • Estero Parkway from Three Oaks Road to Ben Hill Griffin Parkway
  • LC DOT owns a short stretch of Coconut Road at the far west end.

Village of Estero

The Village maintains roads within the Village boundaries that ARE NOT FDOT roads, LC DOT roads, or private roads (typically within gated communities). Additionally, Luettich Lane and Sherrill Lane are private roads.

The Village website provides the capability to submit a request for information https://estero-fl.gov/request-for-action/. Although there are four choices, you would usually click on code enforcement issues https://estero-fl.gov/code-enforcement-forms/) or Public Works (roads, sidewalks, trash, construction debris, drainage, and signs https://estero-fl.gov/public-works-form/. The more specific information you can provide will help the Public Works department take appropriate action and resolve the issue.

Currently the website does not accept photos of the issue or provide feedback to the individual reporting.

Roadways within gated communities are considered “private roads” and the Village is not responsible for any action or issues.

Gated Communities

Typically, the Community Development District (CDD) [list of districts can be found at https://www.leegov.com/bocc/specialdistricts ], or your Master Homeowners Association is responsible for the roads, sidewalks, crosswalks, speed humps, curbs, and gutters inside your community.
