On October 29, the Village Councilors, Management, Company Developers, and Planners invited residents to a meeting to listen to suggestions for the various options for the area north and west of Williams Road and Via Coconut. This is where the former driving range was situated. It includes 52 acres leased for 99 years from Estero High School to provide a “high-end” sports complex.
The overall complex will cover 72 acres, including the High 5 development complex, which includes pickleball courts, 10-pin bowling, and many other facilities. After the presentation, residents could express their thoughts and suggestions.
At the meeting, Mayor Jon McLain mentioned several important points about the way Estero has developed since its incorporation on Dec 31st, 2014, shortly to celebrate its 10th anniversary! These included:
- The Purchase of 62 acres of land northwest of the corner of US 41 and Corkscrew Road includes part of the Estero River for recreational development.
- The Purchase of 10 acres of land close to River Oaks (North Fork) that cannot be used for development.
- 79 acres of land purchased behind the Post Office on Three Oaks will be used to reduce flooding by introducing retention ponds. This, again, will avoid any commercial development on the land.
- The purchase of 20 acres at Via Coconut and Williams Road that is being used for the Recreational and Sports development referred to above.
- The agreed leasing of 52 acres of land next to and part of the Estero High School
- Almost 200 acres of land have been purchased by the Village to avoid commercial development in those areas and to enhance the open spaces and recreation vision that was put in place in 2029 as Estero’s Public Planning Policy called the Parks Master Plan.
- In addition, property taxes in Estero have remained much the same for the last 10 years and enjoy one of the lowest property tax rates in Florida.
