A Thank you to our Volunteers

Engage Estero’s Adopt-a-Highway program, expertly coordinated by volunteer leader Julie Yellig, has achieved a significant milestone, celebrating its fifth successful season. This community-driven initiative showcases the tremendous impact that devoted volunteers can have, greatly enhancing Estero’s beauty and environmental health.

Volunteers and community leaders praised Julie Yellig’s leadership at a recent gathering honoring those who have dedicated their time to this meaningful cause. Volunteers from neighborhoods including Rapallo, Pelican Sound, Bella Terra, Copperleaf, The Vines, Belle Lago, Riverwoods, Grandezza, and Meadows of Estero came together to celebrate their collective achievements.

In heartfelt remarks, Julie Yellig emphasized the resilience and spirit demonstrated by volunteers, who have consistently removed tons of litter, beautified local roadways, and fostered a sense of community pride. “Your steady and quiet work truly makes a difference,” said Yellig, recognizing how these efforts have made Estero more inviting and enjoyable for both residents and visitors.

Steve Sarkozy, Village Manager, expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the substantial financial benefits the community gains from volunteers. “The debris you’ve collected, especially after the hurricane, would have otherwise cost the village hundreds of thousands of dollars,” Sarkozy noted, underscoring the vital economic value of volunteerism.

Jim Gilmartin, representing Engage Estero’s Board of Directors, further emphasized the importance of volunteer engagement. “Our purpose is not only to inform but also to encourage active participation. Community changes are genuinely accomplished through actions like these,” he shared. Gilmartin commended volunteers for their unwavering dedication, stating, “Grassroots efforts like yours are the true strength of Estero.”

Local businesses have also played a supportive role. Marathon/Dos Amigos Authentic Mexican Grill was recognized for generously providing water and ice to the volunteers, exemplifying the collaborative spirit that allows Estero to thrive.

The Adopt-a-Highway volunteers received commemorative T-shirts, symbolizing recognition and pride in their ongoing commitment. Their collective impact demonstrates how volunteerism enhances community aesthetics and strengthens bonds and civic responsibility within the community.

Julie Yellig’s inspirational leadership continues to drive the program forward, exemplifying the power of volunteerism and community spirit in Estero. Many other volunteers have also enhanced the roads in other parts of Estero.

Engage Estero extends heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for their efforts in maintaining Estero as a beautiful community to live in and visit. We especially appreciate our neighbors who participate in litter picking in their neighborhoods, during their walks, and other Adopt a Road programs within our community.
