The Community Rating System (CRS) Provides Residents With Up To 20% Discount
Engage Estero is providing the latest information the Village of Estero released regarding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood insurance Community Rating System (CRS) https://www.fema.gov/floodplain-management/community-rating-system.
The Village is aware that National Flood Insurance Program policyholders have received a letter from FEMA regarding their flood insurance policies. Village staff is working to respond to FEMA to avoid probation and maintain the CRS up to 20% discount on premium rates provided to residents on their flood insurance.
The staff has been meeting weekly with FEMA and fully intends to provide all required documentation to meet FEMA’s September 16th and November 18th deadlines.
HOWEVER, ONE OF THE ITEMS THAT FEMA HAS FOUND DEFICIENT IS THAT SOME RESIDENTS HAVE NOT OBTAINED NECESSARY PERMITS FOR REPAIRS. THIS IS JEOPARDIZING THE VILLAGE’S PARTICIPATION IN THE NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM FOR EVERYONE.
IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR ANYONE THAT HAS HAD ANY DAMAGE OR REPAIR WORK PERFORMED AS A RESULT OF HURRICANE IAN, HELENE OR MILTON MUST OBTAIN PERMITS FOR ALL WORK DONE. AFTER THE FACT, PERMITS CAN BE OBTAINED.
ALL HURRICANE-RELATED WORK MUST BE DOCUMENTED FOR RESIDENTS TO RECEIVE THE CRS DISCOUNT.
Any change to the 20% discount will not happen during the hurricane season and will not be effective until at least April 1, 2025.
If you have questions, please contact VOEFema@estero-fl.gov or call 239-221-5036.
Let’s ensure that all hurricane-related work is properly documented and permitted. This is in the best interest of every resident and the village. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
