During the weekend of April 6th, Engage Estero’s team of volunteers, organized by Julie Yellig, collected 360 pounds of bagged litter. A total of 2.2 tons of litter has been collected since the end of April 2023 (the end of last season), and an astonishing 10 tons since the start of the FDOT program with Engage Estero in October 2020.

Volunteers this month represented Rapallo, Pelican Sound, Bella Terra, Copperleaf, The Vines, Estero Pointe, Belle Lago, Shadow Wood, Grandezza, Meadows of Estero, and Riverwoods.

Marathon/Dos Amigos Authentic Mexican Grill continues to provide water and ice to the volunteers, which is always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Engage Estero’s management team recognizes that many neighbors regularly pick up litter around their neighborhood and local roads on their walks and participate in more than one road adoption program. We are also grateful for the many community businesses and churches that have stepped up to beautify their surroundings and help keep their areas litter-free.

The volunteer road adoption groups in Estero, comprising

  • FDOT with Engage Estero (Hwy 41),
  • Lee County (Corkscrew, Ben Hill Griffin, Three Oaks),
  • The Village (Estero Parkway, Williams, Via Coconut Point)

were collectively recognized for the second year in a row as an Outstanding Adoption Group by the “Keep Lee County Beautiful Organization.”

Engage Estero’s Board of Directors and Management congratulate Estero’s wonderful volunteers for all they do, demonstrating pride in helping keep Estero looking its best.

The “Keep Lee County Beautiful” organization organizes year-round clean-up projects, conducts related education, and supports other group efforts.

If you want to help clean up our roads to improve our environment, please email Julie Yellig at ecclhwy41@gmail.com. Julie will connect you with local groups that help clear up our road network and explain how to help with the Hwy 41 Adopt a Highway program.
