The November 13, 2020 meeting of the ECCL was held virtually on Zoom. Featured speaker was Estero Councilmember Jon McLain speaking on transportation issues. You can watch the video below. A summary of the contents is provided below.
Key Observations from the November 2020 ECCL Monthly Meeting.
The 198th monthly meeting of the ECCL took place via Zoom on Friday, November 13, at 10 am. After welcoming comments, Jim Gilmartin introduced guest speaker John McClain. Mr. McClain is District 3 rep. on the Estero Village Council and serves on the Transportation Committee and reported on the following updates:
- Estero Parkway Renovation- Lee County has contributed $2.2 million to this $10 million project. Improvements include sidewalks, 7′ bike lanes, turning lanes, streetlights, repaving, and landscaping. Completion is expected by the end of the year.
- The corkscrew traffic light at Lowe’s – $792,000 has been approved to correct this intersection’s safety issues. Completion end of 2021.
- I-75 interchange -Addition of two northbound and two southbound lanes to help “stacking” for access. The entrance and exit lanes to I75 will also be extended for smoother entrance and exit of the highway. Addition of bike lanes and sidewalk. Completion Spring of 2012. Additional enhanced landscaping planned by 2023 – 4.
- Corkscrew widening – Lee to hire a contractor in 2021. Widening to six lanes from Ben Hill Griffin to Wildcat Run. Four lanes from there to the east of Bella Terra. There will be the addition of bike lanes, sidewalk, and upgraded lighting.
- US -41 and Pelican Colony – Two property developers will start constructing traffic signals for better ingress and egress of the property.
- Turn lanes were added at Williams Rd. by Estero High School at $630,000.
- Walgreens – No left turn is allowed to exit the Walgreens on US -41, but it is widely ignored. New road modifications will be designed to remedy the issue.
- Seminole Railroad tracks – Collier & Lee Counties are getting an appraisal of property for possible acquisition for public use.
The meeting closed with updates from the various ECCL Councils.
