Three years ago when Lee Health (formerly Lee Memorial) applied to the State of Florida (AHCA) for permission to build a hospital on 30 acres they acquired in the south end of Coconut Point over 10 years ago NCH successfully opposed the application by arguing that their business would be negatively impacted.
Immediately thereafter Lee Health worked with ECCL to develop a $140 million, 172,000 square foot, healthcare facility designed to satisfy all the unmet healthcare needs of the Bonita/Estero marketplace, including a 24/7 Emergency Department, in an integrated, one stop shopping manner.
This facility has been designed so that an 80 bed hospital tower can be added once the building now under development has demonstrated to the State that the community clearly needs it.
Last year NCH attempted a legal action against Lee Health to interfere with the plans to develop the medical campus at Coconut Point. Their intent was to delay or stop Lee Health from proceeding with their plans to open the Coconut Point facility.
Just this last week NCH has filed an application to build another 24/7 Emergency Department less than half a mile up US41 cynically trying to once again deny Lee Health the ability to demonstrate the community’s need for a hospital to the State and thereby deny the community convenient access to a hospital.
On Wednesday evening at 5:30 in the Council Chambers at the Estero Village Hall the Village’s Design Review Board (DRB) will meet to conduct a Preliminary Information Meeting on the NCH proposal where NCH will have an opportunity to present its plans and you will be able to tell them and the members of the DRB what you think about the proposal.
If you are unable to make the meeting we urge you to send your comments to the DRB members and the Village Council by clicking the following link and modifying our message of opposition as you please…
If the button does not work on your device, click here.
Finally we ask you to share this message with your south Lee County friends and neighbors so that all of our community is informed about what is happening to our healthcare delivery system.
