Lowell Gerson holds the rank of Professor Emeritus of Family and Community Medicine at the Northeast Ohio Medical University. He recently retired his positions as Senior Scientist Department of Emergency Medicine (SUMMA-Akron City Hospital) and as Senior Associate Editor of Academic Emergency Medicine. He remains on the Editorial Board of MEDICC Review. Dr. Gerson’s previous Faculty of Medicine appointments were in the Division of Community Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland and the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Mc Master University. He was a Visiting Fellow to the Ageing Project, South Australia Health Commission and a Visiting Senior Scientist in the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention. He is considered one of the founders of geriatric emergency medicine. The Academy of Geriatric Emergency Medicine’s Gerson-Sanders award recognizes this. He moved full time to Estero in 2004 and is on the Board of the Lee County Injury Prevention Coalition.
