    Is there anything that can be done about unsightly property in Estero. In particular W. Broadway & especially 3750 Broadway where the garage door is a bamboo curtain & hanging & shreds.. there are other properties on Broadway alsothat could be cleaned up. Thanks

      Lee County does have an abandoned property registration pursuant to Lee County ordinance No.13-18. The goal of this ordinance is to involve the mortgagee in an unsightly, abandoned property. With respect to abandoned properties, you can call 239-533-8340. However, if the property is not abandoned, you can call Sylvia Zarco (Code Enforcement) at 239-533-8892. Sylvia works under LDC Section No. 6-115, Maintenance. This section also has a subsection for Nuisances (D).

      The County issued a permit for the RV show at this site as, according to County regulations, it is a permitted use. This is just one more reason why Estero needs to incorporate so that the Village of Estero can be in control of what happens on our lands.

      Dan, I second your question (especially the part about the “airport”. There are folks flying powered paragliders in and out of that spot and quite frankly, I am done with them buzzing my house in Marsh Landing early on weekend mornings (the altitude they are at when they fly over is on;y about 100 feet which is WAY UNDER the FAA minimum altitude restrictions. It’s becoming a freaking free for all around here.

    Please publish a readable map that shows the outer boundaries (street by street) of the proposed Estero Village.

    I have seen pitifully small maps published in the newspaper and in your communications that 1) are way too small of a font and 2) they seem to focus on districts.

    At this point, I could care less about district information as do others.

    Show us what areas are included in the proposed Estero Village and publish it on the website.

    A readable map of the proposed area is long overdue!

    We, at Lamb of God Church, are working with the developers on the North side of Estero Blvd and Three Oaks, to provide sidewalks etc. Have you approached Ned Dewhurst about annexing this property?

      Estero would have to become a city before it considered any property owner’s request regarding annexation. The boundary map of the proposed Village of Estero, approved by the state legislators, is shown under Incorporation Referendum information on the Estero Today website.

    I will not be able to make the planning meeting this evening regarding suggestions for developement in Estero. I would love, love, love to see a WAWA market at the corner of Coconut Rd and US 41. They are moving into SWF, and it would be great to have them in Estero. If you are not familiar with them, I think they are opening up in Cape Coral.

          Yes, both Walmart and Coconut Point Mall are included in the boundaries of the proposed Village of Estero.

      The fire districts will not change if Estero becomes incorporated. The north side of Estero Parkway is in the San Carlos Fire District.

        Since Estero will come a village, which line item property taxes will go down. Unfortunately, all village taxes in NY increased. I hope you are correct in creating another layer of government.

          The feasibility study shows there will be large surpluses for the first 5 years assuming there is no change in the present property tax rate. This is due to Estero’s large property tax base. This study did not include Hertz or the new Walmart, which will increase this tax base.     I am the ECCL rep from the Residences at Coconut Point. Many of our residents have asked if there is a plan to landscape Via Coconut Pt. especially behind Coconut Point and Rapallo. It is pretty heavily traveled these days and some landscaping (at least the center median) would dress up the area. All summer long, residents had to call Lee County just to get the grass mowed. Please let me know who would be the best person to contact regarding my question. Thanks.

      The Coconut Point Senior Living facility will be built on the south side of Pelican Colony Blvd. (just south of the Lee Memorial Health System’s property in Coconut Point’s South Village).
      It is designed to be three stories, 45 ft. to the top of the roof. You may see the architectural drawings by going to http://www.esterofl.org and then clicking on Estero Design Review Committee; type in ALF in the google search, then click on Elevations overall June 17,2014.

    Has it been considered/suggested to build pedestrian flyovers of US 41? Could envision something between Corkscrew & Williams as part of the Town Center plan. Also one to provide pedestrian access to Coconut Point.

      I will pass your thoughts along to the consultants. Right now the focus is on pedestrian and bike crossings over Via Coconut Point, the railroad tracks just west of the park, and perhaps a roundabout at Via Coconut and Corkscrew Road/Sandy Lane.

        I highly recommend the fly-overs over US41. I really think that they are ESSENTIAL to tying our whole community together with an ease and pleasure pedestrian/biking focus, otherwise US41 really divides our community. Yes, please pass this on to our consultants!

    We were told by Mirasol Management that a hotel was going up on Parcel 2F which is on the corner of Via Coconut and Coconut Rd. What hotel is it? Is there any more information about this?

      A Marriott Suites has recently been approved to be built at this site. It will have 112 rooms and is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year. While it has already been approved by Lee County, it will be discussed at the November 17 Estero Community Planning Panel’s public meeting at 5 p.m. at the Estero Community Park.

    I think flyovers will further divide our community. It puts local business at risk of losing business. Pedestrian walkways over busy roadways would be more eye-appealing.

      I agree Mary!! Any “flyovers” should be for pedestrians and BIKES only!!! And they are essential in uniting our whole community. What fun to be able to ride all over safely to restaurants, and activities all around Estero. Love that idea.

    I’ve been resident of Estero for nine years along the Corkscrew Corridor, and I believe there is a great need to add a new lane to each side of the road, as the need may not be immediate, but once Corkscrew Shores and the land between Wildcat Run and The Preserve is developed, the extra lanes will be greatly necessary.

    In addition, there is no sidewalk between Stoneybrook and The Preserve, making it very difficult for walkers or bikers to travel anywhere beyond their neighborhood. I believe laying a concrete sidewalk or pavement path in this area would be an inexpensive and simple project for the newly incorporated Village of Estero.

    Just looking at the street level view of the Village boundaries and it appears that one of the streets within The West Bay Club (Riverbrook Run) is falling within District 2, while the rest of The West Bay Club is in District 1 Is this just an error in the map details or is it correct?

        Does it seem appropriate to divide a small tight knit community like The West Bay Club, over 55 homes on Riverbrook, most of which have owners who consider this their second home and are not registered voters in Florida? I would think the few remaining owners would prefer to be part of West Bay for districting purposes.

          Estero’s seven districts were set based on the 2010 census from the Census Bureau, with approximately 4,000 residents in each district. Unfortunately, there are several communities which are divided: The West Bay Club, Breckenridge and Shadow Wood at The Brooks. These districts were approved by the state legislature on May 24, 2014.

      El Dorado Acres’s HOA chose not to be included in the incorporation of Estero. El Dorado Acres is still in unincorporated Lee County.

        Thank you for your reply. We had heard about this assisted living facility, but were not sure of how certain the plan was. My neighbors and I (here in the townhomes in Marsh Landing) are concerned about the layout of the outdoor services for the facility (i.e. dumpster, backup generator, Etc.) and whether they were being planned to be on the east or the west side of the building. Can you direct me to someone whom we could address this question to and also voice our input regarding the planned location of those services please?

    I am a recent resident of Rapallo and would like to know if there is a plan to install a traffic light on route 41. When travelling south on route 41 a turning signal would make it much easier to enter the community of Rapallo. Without a turning signal there will most certainly be traffic accidents.

      Estero residents advocated strongly for a traffic light at this location, however, the Florida Department of Transportation maintains one is not needed.

      FDOT has planted core level plantings. Bonita Springs added approximately $1,000,000 for additional plantings in the median dividers on US 41 in Bonita Springs. Any further plantings in any of the median dividers throughout Estero will have to be undertaken by the Estero council.

    Are there any plans to clean up the east ditch on Three Oaks north of Williams Rd. The road is beautifully landscaped until the Williams and then it is full of trash and mud. I realize it is an overflow but makes the whole area look bad.

      This is part of The Brooks CDD. They have sent their representative out to look at the area and if it needs to be cleaned up, they will do so.

    The street that runs behind Walgreen just off Williams Rd and West of 41 has a NO LEFT TURN signage at the Stop Sign. Maybe, just maybe this was needed when the Alberson’s was across the way, but Alberson’s is long gone
    and virtually everyone turns left anyway.

    I think it would be a good idea, especially with all the increased seasonal population, to remove the NO LEFT TURN signage and whenever time allows, physically removed the curbing at the stop that strongly forces you to turn right as you exit onto Williams Road.

    Re Estero Grande at Estero Blvd & US 41. what all was the developer approved for..was it just a zoning change or was it for their whole development plan. How much say will Estero have.

      Estero will not have a lot of say in the final development other than to make sure that the final designs meet our Land Development Code provisions. What was approved was the residential portion consisting of 7 buildings with 285 units along with 4 outlets for commercial uses. The residential units and each outlot will need to receive a Development Order with design approval before it gets a building permit. Since Estero has not completed its update of our portion of the Land Development Code, existing rules will apply.

    Can the new Village of Estero display its leadership by improving the options for hazardous household waste collection?Lee count’s program is frighteningly inadequate. A non-advertised quarterly collection, plus individual trips to a collection center in Ft. Myers are the only two options I have located. I intend to get involved with this issue through political activism and media exposure. It’s unbelivable that an area whose economy relies upon the environment is so lax in this area. Any thoughts?

      This is certainly something you can bring to the new Village Council after it’s been established. The election is on March 3 and the first Council meeting will be held on March 17. A notice will go out with the times and location once the Council has been elected.

    How/where do I register to vote. I own a home in THe Reserve at Estero
    and found out that this community will be included in The Villages of Estero…however the zip code will remain 33967 which is a Fort Myers zip code. I am confused? Shouldn’t we have 33928 as our zip code. Please explain. Thank you David HOrton

      You must be registered to vote no later than February 2 in order to vote for the Village Council Candidates. We have the voting information on this website under Council Election Information at http://esterotoday.com/election-information-available-on-esterotoday-com/. You may click on the Lee Elections Office website and click on Voter Registration at the top of their website. There you are able to download a voter registration application, complete it and mail it in to the Elections Office. Or you may call them at 533-8683.
      We currently have 13 candidates running for the Village Council; residents need to vote for 1 candidate from each district (7 districts). We have all of the council candidate information under http://esterotoday.com/incorporation-referendum/village-of-estero-council-candidates/ There will also be two public forums where you can meet the candidates. Please puruse all the links under Incorporation Information on this website.
      As for the zipcodes, it is confusing. Because you live in The Reserve at Estero, you are in the San Carlos Fire District and have a Ft. Myers zip code, but actually live in Estero. This will not change. All the communities on Coconut Road in Estero have a Bonita Springs address/zip code. This will not change.

    I have a question about the RaceTrac gas station that is going in next to Coconut Point Ford. I think their canopy is ugly and colors frightful. will they have to change their canopy to meet Estero’s standards?

      Their colors are limited to match the colors of the main building and they cannot be associated with their logo, or in other words, the bright red that you typically see everywhere else. They are conforming to our ‘current’ standards.

      The Lee County Community Development Dept. states that: The arena site is bounded by Interstate 75 on the west and three separate parcels on the south, east and north. At this time a limited review development order has been approved only for expansion of the lake situated on the south parcel; a development order has been approved for development of multi-family dwelling units to the east; and, an application for development of single family and twin villa units is pending but not yet approved on the tract to the north.

      The pending project to the north is a Pulte Group development. Del Webb is not reflected in any of the application material for the other two projects.

    As a homeowner at Island Club at Corkscrew Woodlands, I was floored when the representatives of the developers who bought the land between ours and Lowe’s told our community that they planned on constructing many 4-story apartment buildings there with a total of over 400 apartments! I have never, ever seen anything but deterioration and a major uptick in serious crimes in areas where apartment buildings were constructed. One apartment building in this area of single homes and duplexes is bad enough, but 400 apartments within a small area is a much worse scenario than anyone living here ever imagined! The last thing upscale Estero needs is this type of construction!

      I concur with Alan Dell about the apartment complexes in Estero. We moved to Estero because of the quality of life. It appears that it may be going in the wrong direction. I hope it is not growth at any cost. Be careful what you wish for. I truly hope our elected officials will make the right decision in maintaining the nice community that it is. You need to tighten up the codes so you cover all your bases. Definitely not happy about Walmarts on every street corner and large apartment complexes. I hope that we will not have to relocate.

    Does anyone think that it would be a good idea to have a banner sign or tent at the farmers market at Coconut Point on Thursdays. I was there today and it was so well attended that I thought that it might be a good venue to publicize the upcoming “town meetings”presenting the council member candidates, the upcoming election etc.

      According to Bill Prysi, Chairman of the Estero Design Review Committee, it is most likely the required buffer between commercial & residential required by code. It will also most likely have landscaping added to the wall between the wall & the adjacent condos.

      The ECCL does not get involved with individual problems associated with residential communities. You should go back to your board of directors, the management company and/or the Lee County Health Dept. to get the problem resolved.

      No, CR 951 has not been approved. Collier County Metropolitan Planning Organization would like for CR 951 to be extended from Collier County up to Alico Road in Lee County, however, the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization does not currently have it in their future planning. That does not mean that plans can’t change. We all need to stay vigilant.

      This parcel is included in the area generally known as the Healthcare Village envisioned in the January 2015 Community Planning Initiative Final Report. The Village Council has determined to stay any new application for development approval in this area until further study is completed. This additional study is expected to be completed within three months.

      No, Estero does not have a building permit department. The Village of Estero Council held its first meeting on March 17 and is in the process of developing a Planning and Zoning Board and a Design Review Committee. Lee County staff will be providing the Village with such services for some time.

    Your information on the Lee Memorial Healthcare system mentions the ever aging population. That means aging eyesight, too. I’d suggest that you have your website designer review his work with that in mind. The site needs much more contrast in the lettering. I had to turn the lights out in order to even guess at what I was reading – especially this email form!

    Who is responsible for maintaining the grass “weeds” cutting on Coconut Via?

    Since we incorporated, I assume it is the responsibility of Estero, although I assume Estero has contracted that out to an outside landscape company.

    Nonetheless, the weeds and occassional grass are long overdue for cutting from Coconut to Corkscrew.

      Lee County is responsible for cutting the median on Via Coconut Road. Many times it takes a phone call or email to accelerate the process.
      You can go to http://www.lee-county.com and under “submit request for action” you can request, per the online form, that they mow the median or call 239-533-9400 hotline to request.
      I believe that many of these types of issues are going to be discussed in the near future by the new ECCL board as well.

    The “grass” or more like it, the weeds along both sides and in the median of Coconut Via are long overdue for cutting.

    The overgrown weeds are along the entire length of Coconut Via from Coconut to Corkscrew.

    I assume the cutting is the responsibility of the Village of Estero, but maybe not.

    What are the plans to decrease the noise level from Corkscrew Rd.? The noise will only get worse with the much needed expansion.

    We live in Grandezza in the Santa Lucia community. The noise level has increased dramatically with the additional traffic resulting from new development and additional large trucks using Corkscrew Rd on a daily basis.

I thought this situation would improve after incorporation, but it hasn’t.     I moved to Villa Palmeras from NC. When we signed up our kids for school, one of them could not get into any of the local schools and has to travel over 10 miles to go to school everyday.

    Hello,
    Thanks to you all for your engagement in transportation challenges in Lee County (the greater Villages of Estero area). It looks like your recent meeting was very productive and worthwhile. I am sorry I could not attend.
    There is a budget decision about roads that I ask you to examine. Last year, the County, in the CIP budget had planned to priortize funding expansion of Alico Road east of Ben Hill Griffin. This was not, nor has never been a pressing need based on car counts. So, a group of citizens raised a ruckus and were able to get that money redirected to more pressing needs.

    I see that your list of priorities also does not have expanding Alico road on it. I do not think the CIP budget for this year is approved. (I am out of town). Please consider asking the County Manager or an appointee that can defend the budget to explain transportation-related decisions. We know that the appropriations, after all, are where the ‘rubber meets the road”, and if funds are used to expand Alico, they will not be available for other priorities.
